About Pharmacodynamic DYes
I first started doing tie-dye in 2019 to make something for my son to wear to tie-dye day at preschool. I got a kit from the grocery store and was underwhelmed with the results, so I went online to do some research on how to improve. I was blown away at the beautiful pieces of art people were able to produce using the right dyes/dyeing process. I ordered some fiber-reactive dyes and proceeded to dye any 100% cotton item I could get my hands on. Since then I’ve continued tie-dyeing when life circumstances have allowed it.
My background is in pharmaceutical sciences, and I used to work in academia doing pharmacogenetics research. Unfortunately, I have narcolepsy and it has become debilitating enough that I’m no longer able to work a regular job, so I’m trying to make a living doing things on my own schedule that engage the scientist part of my brain. I chose Pharmacodynamic Dyes as my shop name to honor that part of my life and because it reminds me of a Jeopardy before and after answer. (FYI: pharmacodynamics is the study of how drugs exert their effects in the body).

- Each listing is for the exact shirt pictured.
- I use a variety of different clothing brands and, for some brands, several different styles. Every product page lists the specific brand and style of shirt used to make it and a size chart. There’s a lot of variation within sizes so please check the size chart for the shirt you’re interested in. Because sizing information is available for every shirt, I will not accept returns if the shirt doesn’t fit.
- For those of you with allergies or sensitivities: I use an unscented textile detergent (Synthrapol). I have a very furry dog.
